View a physical sample where possible. A web photo cannot fully show local aggregate, cement colour or how much stone will be exposed.
The finish is only the visible part of the job
Exposed aggregate uses a concrete mix selected to reveal decorative stone at the surface. The final look depends on aggregate colour and size, cement tone, placement, washing or exposure timing, and sealing. It can suit driveways, paths, patios and pool-adjacent areas, but the slab preparation beneath it still carries the load.
What to choose before accepting a quote
Edges and interfaces
Define borders, steps, drains, garage thresholds and the point where a decorative private driveway meets any council-controlled crossing.
Sealer system
Ask what sealer is included, the intended appearance, slip considerations and what future cleaning or resealing may be recommended.
Whole slab scope
Base preparation, reinforcement, thickness, joints and drainage remain separate technical decisions even when the finish gets most of the attention.
Border-region design point
Decorative finishes should not be carried automatically into the road reserve. Wodonga's published crossing guidance restricts alternative finishes in standard vehicle crossings unless another approval applies. Albury projects should likewise confirm the approved crossover specification. Keep the private decorative area and public asset scope distinct in the quote.
Plain concrete or exposed aggregate?
Plain concrete is usually the simpler finish and can make sense where function and budget lead. Exposed aggregate adds colour and texture and can disguise light surface marking better, but it requires more finish-specific coordination. Neither option compensates for poor levels or base preparation. Compare them in the scope and cost guide, then request prices against the same dimensions.
